That's right - the Falkirk Wheel is not a bridge, but nevertheless it is worthy of note as one of the outstanding engineering structures built to commemorate the Millennium in Britain.
Like the Gateshead bridge, the Falkirk Wheel is a world first - the world's first and only rotating boat lift. Built to replace a long-abandoned flight of eleven locks, the Falkirk Wheel raises boats 35 metres from the Clyde and Forth Canal up onto the Union Canal, thereby bridging the gap in the canal link between Glasgow and Edinburgh.
There is plenty of material on the web to provide further information. the official Falkirk Wheel website is good in this respect as is the Undiscovered Scotland website; see also the website of the architects RMJM.
