Royal Military Canal, Hythe

The Royal Military Canal bounds Romney Marsh on the landward side, and runs westwards from Hythe. A Millennium project to restore and upgrade the canal is in progress, including upgrading the path alongside. This upgrade includes the replacement of an old brick bridge with very awkward access at the west end of Hythe in favour of a new structure. Further information may be found on the web for the Royal Military Canal.

At the north end of the bridge a  model of a "Sound Mirror" has been established since the time of my visit.  The model is based on two large experimental acoustic mirrors, a fore-runner of radar, which were built in the locality in the 1920s
